Schiff: Mueller report ‘far worse’ than Watergate

House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday that the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller report’s are “far worse” than Watergate was for former President Nixon.

“The obstruction of justice in particular in this case is far worse than anything that Richard Nixon did, the break in by the Russians of Democratic institutions, a foreign adversary far more significant than the plumbers breaking into the Democratic headquarters so yes, I would say in every way this is more significant than Watergate,” Schiff said on ABC News’s “This Week.”

Schiff’s comments come after Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election was released to the public on Thursday.

{mosads}The lengthy document, compiled over a 22-month period, did not conclude that President Trump’s 2016 campaign coordinated with the Kremlin to influence the election.

Mueller did find that Trump’s team knew that it would benefit from Russia’s illegal efforts to interfere in the election.

“The fact that a candidate for president, and now a president of the United States, would not only not stand up and resist Russian interference, but would welcome it, goes well beyond anything Nixon did,” Schiff added on Sunday.

On the issue of whether Trump sought to obstruct justice, the report detailed 10 possible cases but did not reach a conclusion.

Trump and his allies have celebrated the conclusions of the report, saying that they “totally exonerate” the president.

Watergate in part led to Nixon’s resignation in 1974.
