Seth Moulton: Biden should apologize to Anita Hill

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said Sunday that fellow 2020 presidential hopeful Joe Biden should apologize to Anita Hill for how she was treated during her 1991 testimony about Justice Clarence Thomas.

“I do, I think she was treated terribly,” Moulton, who launched his 2020 campaign earlier this month, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“Joe Biden is a mentor and a friend of mine, he’s a great American, everybody makes mistakes, I do think that was a mistake though and I think he should apologize.”

The former vice president reached out to Hill before formally announcing his presidential campaign on Thursday. 

{mosads}He expressed regret for how she was treated during her 1991 testimony, when she accused then-Supreme Court nominee Thomas of sexual harassment in front a committee which Biden chaired.

Hill rejected Biden’s apology, saying she is not convinced that he truly accepts responsibility for the matter.

“I cannot be satisfied by simply saying I’m sorry for what happened to you,” Hill told The New York Times. “I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose.”
