Klobuchar knocks Trump: ‘This negotiating by tweet hasn’t been working’

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), a 2020 presidential hopeful, on Sunday blasted President Trump’s “negotiation by tweet” in the ongoing trade war with China.

“He creates chaos and I don’t think that’s good for getting an agreement with a country like China,” Klobuchar said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“You’ve got to keep your promises and you’ve got to keep your threats and he has done neither… this negotiating by tweet hasn’t been working,” she added.

{mosads}Klobuchar, paraphrasing an Ojibwe Native American proverb, added: “What a great leader does—you make decisions not just for this generation but for seven generations from now,” and said Trump “can’t even keep his decisions seven minutes from now.”

Describing her interactions with voters on the campaign trail, the Minnesota senator told host Chris Wallace, “They don’t want a whiner in the White House … they are tired of hearing the president whining every day when they’re struggling to make ends meet.”

Klobuchar demurred when pressed by Wallace on a series of misstatements by former Vice President Joe Biden, who, like her, has staked out more moderate positions that appeal less to the Democratic base than other members of the crowded presidential primary field, telling Wallace “I’m focused on my own campaign.”

Klobuchar is one of 10 candidates so far who have qualified for a spot on the debate stage in the third round of Democratic debates in September.
