Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump said that President Trump has not yet reached out to the family of Jacob Blake but suggested they would be willing to speak with him.
“The Blake family has not been contacted at this time,” Crump said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “The Blake family is very respectful of all our elected officials, and as his mother says, she prays for all of our elected officials.”
“So we will see” whether any administration officials contacted the family, he said. Crump noted that Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) spoke with the Blake family “for about an hour.”
“They’re just focused right now on trying to march for their son because he’ll never be able to stand up for himself unless a miracle happens,” he added.
Blake is paralyzed from the waist down after a police officer in Kenosha, Wis., shot him in the back several times as Blake leaned into a vehicle. The president is set to visit the city and meet with law enforcement there on Tuesday.
Crump also reacted to news that the FBI has completed ballistics testing in the Kentucky Attorney General’s investigation of the death of Breonna Taylor, who Crump also represents.
“That is welcome news, because since Breonna Taylor was executed in the sanctity of her own home … they have gotten no answers, it’s just been delay tactic, delay tactic, delay tactic,” he said of Taylor’s family seeking answers. “We had been told that when they got the ballistics report, that’s what they needed to wrap up this investigation and finally give them answers that they so desperately want and the community so desperately needs to try to heal.”
Taylor, an emergency medical technician, was killed after Louisville police serving a “no-knock” warrant entered her apartment unannounced and opened fire.
