GOP group releases Spanish-language healthcare ad
An outside group aligned with Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) is releasing a Spanish-language video touting the GOP’s push to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
The American Action Network (AAN) will run the ad on Univision, Telemundo and digital platforms in five congressional districts in California, Colorado, Texas and Virginia, and exclusively on digital in Florida.
“Too often, Obamacare supporters claimed this law helps Hispanics, yet the number of uninsured Hispanics has grown. Across the country, Hispanic families are facing higher premiums and fewer health care options, and they deserve to know that relief is on the way,” AAN Executive Director Corry Bliss said in a statement.
{mosads}Hispanics have higher-than-average rates of diabetes, asthma and obesity, and have benefited disproportionately from the ObamaCare provision that bans insurance companies from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions.
“Imagine a new path toward the future,” the ad says in Spanish. “Health insurance with more options and better medical attention at a lower cost. A system that puts patients and doctors in charge.”
Republicans have vowed to repeal and replace ObamaCare, arguing its structure is financially untenable, pointing to rising premiums as evidence.
The ad says the GOP healthcare plan will “open the path for new cures by eliminating senseless regulations.”
Supporters of the current law have argued that premiums were rising at a faster rate before the law was enacted, and warn that repealing it without a proper replacement could leave as many as 20 million Americans uninsured.
“Premiums have gone up, but I will submit that they have gone up at a much lower percentage than premiums were going up before [ObamaCare] was enacted,” Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.) said at a press conference last week.
AAN is the sister organization of the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC aligned with Ryan.
