Ann Coulter slams Trump’s immigration plan

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who is known for her hard-line immigration stances, slammed President Trump’s new immigration proposal in a series of tweets on Thursday.

“NO WALL. KEEPS SAME MASSIVE LEVELS OF LEGAL IMMIGRATION. And this is the rube-bait campaign document, not even a serious bill,” Coulter said of the plan in a tweet.

She reiterated the need for a wall at the southern border in several other tweets. {mosads}

Trump, however, did speak about wall construction during his speech unveiling the plan and discussed the need to improve infrastructure at ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Importantly, we’re already building the wall, and we should have close to 400 miles built by the end of next year and probably even more than that. It’s going up very rapidly,” the president said Thursday.

“And I want to thank the Army Corps of Engineers. They’re doing a fantastic job on the wall. And that’s a wall that is desperately needed,” he added.

Coulter also criticized Democratic framing of the new plan, and accused Democrats of hating America.

Coulter was once a staunch supporter of Trump but has repeatedly accused him of not upholding his campaign promise of building the wall. She often tweets critically of the president.

Trump on Thursday revealed a new plan that would switch the U.S. to a “merit-based” immigration system that would emphasize the admission of highly skilled workers into the country. The plan is not likely to pass the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

“Today we are presenting a clear contrast,” Trump said during a Thursday speech. “Democrats are proposing open borders, lower wages and, frankly, lawless chaos. We are proposing an immigration plan that puts the jobs, wages and safety of American workers first.”
