Top Hispanic group launches ‘Trump Wins We Lose’ campaign
The Latino Victory Fund is focusing the campaign on health care, the economy, education, immigration, Puerto Rico and the environment, areas where it says Hispanics are being disproportionately disadvantaged by Trump’s policies.
{mosads}“Latinos simply cannot afford four more years of President Trump and congressional Republicans controlling Washington, D.C. His policies are detrimental to our community, and we’re the ones losing the most if Trump gets re-elected,” Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito said in a press release.
Trump obtained 28 percent of the Latino vote in 2016, according to an analysis by the Pew Research Center.
And while new Latino voters in 2018 surprised with higher participation rates in the midterms, the proportion of Hispanics voting for Republican candidates stayed about the same.
With Latinos set to become the largest nonwhite voting bloc in 2020, Democrats will look to further increase their already large advantage among the group.
Mark-Viverito said Trump’s policies are already alienating Latinos from Trump.
“On issue after issue, Trump has failed America’s hardworking families. Latino voters know what’s at stake this election, and they are ready to vote Trump out in 2020,” said Mark-Viverito.
