Scarborough: Obama came in as ‘Black Jesus’

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on Wednesday said President-elect Donald Trump will benefit from low expectations compared to President Obama, who entered office as “black Jesus.”

{mosads}”Obama came in as black Jesus,” Scarborough, a former GOP congressman, said on “Morning Joe.”

“I don’t want to come in as redneck Jesus, if I’m a president of the United States. You want to come in like Ronald Reagan, where people underestimate you.”

Scarborough added that some in the media had “done Donald Trump a favor” by underscoring support for the president-elect from alt-right groups.

“You all are fools. If you hate Donald Trump, and you want to destroy Donald Trump, you’re doing it the wrong way,” he said. “People that I respect, you keep tweeting about Nazis and this and that.”

Trump disavowed the alt-right on Tuesday in an interview with The New York Times.

“I condemn them. I disavow and I condemn,” Trump said. “I don’t want to energize the group, and I disavow the group.”

Scarborough and Trump butted heads in the general election phase of the campaign season, with the candidate blasting “Morning Joe” over its ratings and hosts, while Scarborough was not shy about firing back.

A CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday found 53 percent of respondents said they believe Trump will do a very or fairly good job as president.
