MSNBC’s Velshi, Ruhle to launch new weekly business program

MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and Ali Velshi are teaming up for a weekly show launching Saturday that will focus on business.

The hosts of “Velshi & Ruhle” plan to focus on business news — including the economy, jobs and trade — through the prism of politics, Ruhle told Forbes.

“We’ve got a business person president and a business-heavy administration,” she said. “So it sort of naturally happened.”

Velshi insisted the show will be like no other business program before it.

“We’re not running a market show at all, and we’re not doing personal finance,” said Velshi. “It’s this whole category in the middle.”

{mosads}”One of the discussions you can have when you have more than two minutes to talk is should it be retail vs. coal, or are they both examples of old technology? That’s one of the advantages of doing it this way,” he added.

Trump hasn’t appeared on MSNBC since May of 2016, a lapse Ruhle hopes to change.

“The show’s going to be interesting,” Ruhle said. “I hope he watches … and I hope he comes on sometime.”

“Velshi & Ruhle” premieres Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Ruhle will continue her anchoring duties weekdays at 9 a.m ET.

Rule is a former Bloomberg host, and Velshi is CNN’s former chief business correspondent.
