Baldwin wins Emmy for ‘SNL’ Trump impersonation

Actor Alec Baldwin on Sunday won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his impersonation of President Trump on “Saturday Night Live.”

Baldwin, who impersonated Trump during the 2016 presidential race and following his inauguration, dedicated the award to Trump in his speech.

“At long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy,” Baldwin said.

Trump’s show “The Apprentice” aired on NBC from 2004 to 2010, followed by the “Celebrity Apprentice” spinoff. During that time, the show was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program twice, losing both times to “The Amazing Race.”{mosads}

Baldwin has played Trump interacting with a shirtless Vladimir Putin, answering questions at his first press conference in months and debating Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. 

His Trump impersonation has caused the president to more than once tweet his anger at the show. In mid-January, Trump tweeted that “SNL” was the “worst of NBC.”

Baldwin, a vocal Trump opponent, has said “SNL” has a responsibility to mock the commander in chief.
