Harvey Weinstein slams New York Times for ‘reckless reporting’

Film producer Harvey Weinstein ripped The New York Times’s bombshell report Thursday on sexual assault allegations against him, calling the reporting “reckless.”

The movie mogul’s remarks came after he announced he would sue the publication for $50 million.

“What I am saying is that I bear responsibility for my actions, but the reason I am suing is because of the Times’s inability to be honest with me, and their reckless reporting. They told me lies. They made assumptions,” Weinstein told Weinstein told Page Six.

“The Times had a deal with us that they would tell us about the people they had on the record in the story, so we could respond appropriately, but they didn’t live up to the bargain,” he continued.

His attorney called the story “false and defamatory” and promised to donate all proceeds of the lawsuit, if successful, to women’s organizations.

The New York Times pushed back on Weinstein’s comments in a statement to The Hill, saying they were confident in their reporting.

“We are confident in the accuracy of our reporting. Mr. Weinstein was aware and able to respond to specific allegations in our story before publication. In fact, we published his response in full,” a New York Times spokesperson said.

Weinstein’s comments come after the Times published an exposé on the producer that contained detailed accusations from actresses he had worked with. The actresses interviewed include Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan.

Weinstein issued a statement in response to the report on Thursday apologizing for his behavior, however he did not confirm the full extent of the accusations reported.

“I realized some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people who I work with have changed,” he said, adding “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it.”
