Carl Bernstein: Fox News is ‘abetting a cover-up’
Legendary Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein said Sunday that Fox News is “abetting a cover-up” in the White House tied to special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into ties between President Trump and Russia.
During an appearance on CNN, Bernstein said that the attacks on Mueller by conservative news hosts, largely on Fox News, are helping White House staffers run a cover up linked to Mueller’s investigation.
{mosads}“It abets a cover-up because there is a cover-up going on in the White House and among Trump’s aides and former aides relating to these investigations,” Bernstein said.
He said that the hosts were “not open in any way to the best obtainable version of the truth” and that they “seem to be oblivious to the serial lying of the president of the United States.”
He added that the hosts were instead making the conduct of everyone “except the president of the United States” — including Mueller — “the issue.”
Fox News hosts have slammed Mueller’s probe as being partisan, especially after it was revealed that he removed an FBI agent from his team for having sent anti-Trump text messages.
Trump regularly watches Fox News and often tweets about the network’s shows.
