Papadopoulos, out of prison, now subject of docuseries

Former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, who was released from federal prison last week, is slated to be the subject of a new docuseries about his relationship with his wife.

Papadopoulos was released from prison in Wisconsin last Friday after serving 12 days for lying to investigators about his contacts with Russia-linked officials during the 2016 campaign.

Now, he and his wife, Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos, are starring in a docuseries produced by Los Angeles-based FGW Productions, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday.

The former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser told The Post that he and his wife hope to portray “a true image of ourselves to be presented for the first time since I was embroiled in the Russia investigation.”{mosads}

The couple is not receiving payment for participating in the series but they will be compensated by FGW for the photos and documents they provide, the newspaper reported.

The crew had already started filming last month when Simona and George drove to the prison in Wisconsin when the former Trump campaign aide reported for his two-week sentence.

Executive producer Stephanie Frederic of FGW Productions described an interaction between the couple on the way to the prison as “the biggest fight I’ve ever seen on television.”

“The story to me is this young couple who falls in love and days later find themselves in the middle of this international scandal,” Frederic told The Post.

“I have friends who are angry at me for doing this series,” she added. “I’m not doing this for politics. A good story is a good story. I think they’re a good story.”

Papadopoulos pleaded guilty as part of Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation in October 2017 to lying to FBI agents about his contacts with Russia-linked individuals that he was seeking to broker a meeting with for the Trump campaign.

Papadopoulos says the new series will focus on day-to-day life with Simona and his ambitions to run for office in the future.
