Newsmax host warns GOP against ‘October surprise’ in Biden impeachment push
Greta Van Susteren, a host on conservative cable channel Newsmax, questioned Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) on the timing of the ongoing House GOP impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
“When will you issue a report or do something? Because if you wait until October, the so-called October surprise right before November is like … in terms of fair play, that the other side, in this case, Bidens would have no opportunity to respond or to act,” Van Susteren told Donalds.
“I mean, if you’re going to do this, you really need to do it a lot swifter just for a sense of fair play,” she added. “You know, it may be everything you say, but fundamentally, to be fair, we would, you know, we’d like to hear what the Biden family has to say in response.”
“First of all, Greta, the Biden families had an opportunity to comment at any step along the way. All they’ve done is lie to the American people, led by Joe Biden and everybody else,” Donalds responded. “You don’t get special treatment because you’re the president’s son. That’s, those are the facts. So we’re going to do our job. I’m not going to speed it up or slow it down … we’re not playing politics.”
Van Susteren’s grilling of Donalds was first highlighted by Mediate.

House Republicans have centered their impeachment inquiry into Biden on his son Hunter’s foreign business dealings and have alleged the president benefited financially from what they say is his son’s influence peddling during his father’s decades in public office.
So far, Republicans have yet to produce concrete evidence to support those claims, while the White House has dismissed the inquiry as a partisan charade.
