Alyssa Farah Griffin, a White House aide under former President Trump, said that there is “wisdom and strategy” behind Trump’s ribald remarks about Arnold Palmer’s genitalia at a rally on Saturday.
“There is some wisdom and strategy to him just flooding the zone with crazy,” Farah Griffin told CNN’s Erin Burnett.
“Talking about the silly Arnold Palmer story means we’re not talking about him saying he’d use the American military against U.S. citizens,” Farah Griffin said, adding that she was present in the Oval Office when he said this during his last term.
At the event Saturday, Trump praised the golfer and said with “all due respect to women,” Palmer was a man “that was all man.”
“When he took the showers with other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable,’” Trump said. “I had to say. We have women that are highly sophisticated here, but they used to look at Arnold as a man.”
Farah Griffin also attacked the Biden administration on the southern border and inflation during the interview.
“There’s no question that the Biden administration was behind on addressing the border crisis and there’s this prevalent issue of inflation and the economy that are the top issues for voters, and Kamala Harris is trying to navigate her way out of them, put together a forward-looking economic agenda,” Farah Griffin said.
A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that immigration, economy and threats to democracy were among the top issues for likely voters.
In terms of issues, the former president led on immigration (48 percent support to 35 percent) and the economy (46 percent to 38 percent). Harris led on threats to democracy (42 percent support to 35 percent) as well as on health care and abortion.
Immigration was the top issue voters said the winner should devote themself to in the first 100 days in the Oval Office, garnering 35 percent support.
