Former Alabama state congressman Barry Moore is headed to Washington to represent the state’s 2nd Congressional District after his victory over his Democratic opponent, former elementary school teacher Phyllis Harvey-Hall.
Moore won the Republican nomination in July despite not receiving an endorsement from the district’s current representative, Martha Roby (R), who did not seek reelection. Roby had endorsed Moore’s opponent, Jeff Coleman.
Moore previously ran for the 2nd Congressional District seat in 2018, losing in the Republican primary to incumbent Roby.
In 1998, Moore founded a waste management company, Barry Moore Industries, which he now owns and operates with his wife, Heather.
Moore served two terms in Alabama’s House of Representatives from 2010 to 2018.
In Moore’s 2020 campaign, he labeled himself as a “true conservative,” claiming that he was the first elected official in Alabama to endorse President Trump in August 2015.
While in college, Moore enlisted in the Alabama National Guard. He later served as the chairman for the Alabama House Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, during which he authored and sponsored multiple pieces of legislation to provide additional protections and services to veterans and military families.
