Rep.-elect Kat Cammack (R-Fla.-03)

Date of birth: Feb. 16, 1988
Residence: Gainesville, Fla.
Occupation: former congressional staffer and campaign manager
Education: B.A., Metropolitan State University of Denver; M.S., U.S. Naval War College
Family: husband, Matthew

Kat Cammack says she was motivated to get into politics after feeling like the Obama administration had failed her.

Her campaign said that the administration’s Home Affordable Modification Program, aimed at helping prevent foreclosures, caused her family to lose their cattle ranch. After experiencing homelessness, she joined Rep. Ted Yoho’s (R-Fla.) congressional campaign.

After he was elected, Cammack continued to work for Yoho on a variety of issues and has served as his deputy chief of staff. Now, she’ll be replacing her former boss, having won the seat he retired from.

Cammack was endorsed by President Trump. “I’m ready to fight Socialism, stop The Squad, and save America. Let’s do this!” she responded on Twitter after the announcement, referring to a group made up of Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Ilhan Omar (Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.).

The congresswoman-elect, who describes herself as a constitutional conservative, has been involved in local chapters of the National Rifle Association and Chamber of Commerce.

She founded a media, marketing and consulting firm and co-founded a nonprofit with her husband aimed at supporting local law enforcement, first responders and veterans.
