Jake Auchincloss won a crowded primary for the deep-blue Massachusetts district formerly held by Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D), who vacated the seat to mount an unsuccessful Senate bid.
Upon graduating from Harvard in 2010, Auchincloss earned an officer’s commission in the U.S. Marine Corps. He commanded a platoon in the restive Helmand Province of Afghanistan and led a special forces contingent in Panama training local forces on counternarcotics operations in Latin America.
After five years of service in the Marines, Auchincloss returned to the Boston area where he split time between a business career at Liberty Mutual and public service on the city council of Newton, Mass., where he grew up and resides with his wife and young son.
Auchincloss has a passion for national security and foreign policy. His domestic agenda items include gun control, the environment and immigration. At 32, he will be one of the youngest members of the House.
