Plane crashes near Houston airport

A small plane crashed near the Houston Executive Airport in Waller County, Texas, on Tuesday.

In a statement posted to Facebook, Waller County Judge Trey Duhon confirmed the crash, stating that the aircraft attempted to take off from the airport heading north. However, the official said that the plane did not reach altitude by the end of the runway and ended up crossing a road.

The aircraft, described in Duhon’s post as a MD-80, finally stopped in a field, where it caught fire.

“Early reports indicate that all 19 passengers and crew safely exited the aircraft and there is a report of 1 injury with a passenger reporting back pain,” Duhon said.

However, one passenger was hospitalized for back injuries, Waller County Sheriff Troy Guidry told ABC 13 News.

Footage from local news outlets showed firefighters at the scene trying to quell the flames that appeared at the back of the aircraft.
