House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said he made available to all members of Congress “information concerning a serious national security threat.”

He then asked the Biden administration to share more to the public so they could “openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat.”

Turner on Tuesday sent a memo to lawmakers about a “destabilizing foreign military capability” and said members can review information about a threat in the Intelligence Committee’s room for sensitive material.

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), ranking member on the committee, cautioned the threat was not of great urgency.

“People should not panic,” he said. “I don’t want people thinking that, you know, Martians are landing.”

ABC News reported the mystery threat is Russia seeking to place a nuclear weapon in space to use against satellites.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan would not share official details.

“I’m not in a position to say anything further from this podium at this time,” he said.

Back on Capitol Hill, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) relayed a message of calm.

 “There is no need for public alarm,” he said. “We are going to work together to address this matter.”
