The topics are the focus of the next round of closed-door AI forums that bring together experts from the tech industry, academic scholars and civil society leaders to discuss the benefits and risks of AI.
In a session from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. ET, senators and panelist will mull “potential doomsday scenarios” and how policy and technological solutions may help mitigate them, according to an announcement shared by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) office.
Attendees include OpenAI head of preparedness Aleksander Madry, Anthropic co-founder Jared Kaplan and AFL-CIO director Amanda Ballyantyne.
The second session will focus on the intersection of AI and national security.
The forum will focus on the known risks presented by adversaries, their investment in AI and the opportunities presented by U.S. leadership on AI, according to the announcement.
Attendees for the national security forum include former senator and co-founder of the AI Caucus Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Scale AI CEO and founder Alex Wang and Microsoft vice president and CTO Bill Chappell.
