Obama’s dig at Las Vegas a gross oversimplification

Wall Street stockbrokers and bankers have also squandered unfathomable amounts of money that came from the pockets of ordinary Americans, and President Obama has forced ordinary Americans to cover the inexcusable losses with their own money instead of letting fail these gambling institutions that are supposedly “too big to fail.”

{mosads}Why doesn’t the president condemn and cease these irresponsible practices, instead of singling out Las Vegas, which offers much more than just gambling, including aiding much of our national security?

Perhaps the president had the aim of attacking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), which is immature and not becoming of a leader of the free world.

Reader ignores Obama’s repeat of Bush policies

In his tirade against the Tea Party (letter, “Inconsistency in black and white,” Feb. 8), Norm Grudman condemned President George W. Bush, charging that he “started two wars against an enemy of about 100 with no country, costing billions and too many lives,” and “drove the economy to near depression, then gave banks billions, the very same banks that took us to the brink, with no requirement to tell us, the people, what they did with the money.”

Quite a charge by itself, but topped by concluding therefore that any criticism of President Barack Obama must be a “black and white” issue.

What is crystal-clear is the inconsistency of blaming one president for his actions while ignoring the successor’s repetition of bailouts and the continuation of similar war prosecution policies now extending into his second year of office.

Cheating on open-book test given by her family

Regarding Sarah Palin’s use of crib notes in the palm of her hand during a Q&A segment on live television, I was astonished to hear Chuck Todd of MSNBC tell Andrea Mitchell on Tuesday, “Well, we’ve all used notes.”

Well Chuck, I have news for you. We have not all been elected as governor of a state, we have not all been one step away from being vice president of the United States and we have not all been considered a serious candidate for the leader of the free world. That’s the difference!

Had Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) won the election, can you imagine what a joy it would have been for the foreign media to see Vice President Palin reading notes from her hand during a press conference (not a speech — a press conference) in France or China or Russia? You think they made fun of George Bush?

For those who keep harping on, “Well, she had notes in her hand for a speech, so what?” Wrong! She had note cards in her hands for her speech — and she had crib notes written in her hand for a Q&A with pre-screened questions from Tea Partiers. Excuse me, but that’s akin to cheating on an open-book test given by your family!
