Pavlich: Of course the left is coming for your guns

In the wake of evil men carrying out unspeakable atrocities good people can’t fathom, understand or relate to, the left takes aim at the tool that was used. After Parkland, firearms are again at the center of the national debate and anti-Second Amendment organizations like Everytown are behind yet another push for expansive gun control.

We’ve heard the narrative before. We need “commonsense” gun laws. We just need “universal background checks” and registration. We’re not coming for your guns or even trying to ban them, we simply want more “safety.” We support the Second Amendment.

{mosads}They’re lying.

Of course the left is coming for your guns, and their own words prove it.

We can start with their calls for U.K.- and Australia-style guns laws, which involved the government in both countries confiscating hundreds of thousands of personally owned firearms in the name of “common sense.” This wasn’t a volunteer buy back and those who refused to participate were threatened with prison time. In fact, the Australian government ran a newspaper ad depicting naked, showering detainees and warned gun owners that if they refused to disarm, rape may be a consequence.

Next, look at the things they’ve written in mainstream media for years.

“Sometimes we just have to acknowledge that the Founders and the Constitution are wrong. This is one of those times. We need to say loud and clear: The Second Amendment must be repealed,” law professor David Cohen wrote for Rolling Stone in 2016.

“My position is going to be direct: America needs to repeal the Second Amendment,” Kurt Eichenwald wrote for Vanity Fair.

“My proposal to repeal the Second Amendment,” documentary filmmaker Michael Moore posted on his Facebook page. “All automatic and semi-automatic guns are banned.”

In other words, essentially all guns in America. What Moore didn’t address is how to confiscate the more than 300 million lawfully owned, semi-automatic firearms in America.

During the “March for Our Lives” in Washington and cities around the country, attendees carried signs that read “F*ck your guns,” “You don’t need a gun,” “BAN” and more. Signs condemning the murderer in Florida were absent.

And finally, last week former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens went all in and declared the Second Amendment should be completely repealed in an op-ed for The New York Times. His piece was tweeted out and endorsed by Democratic National Committee Vice Chairwoman Karen Carter.

If leftists had a choice, the Second Amendment would be erased from history and those who dared to stand up for it would be banished.

At least people like Justice Stevens are honest about the end goal.

While a literal repeal of the Second Amendment is fortunately a pipe dream at this point in time, leftists don’t need repeal in order to make exercising this constitutional right nearly impossible. States like Maryland, New Jersey and cities like Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. are all good examples of this. Sure, the Second Amendment exists, but because of an extensive web of extreme leftist policies and laws on gun or ammunition ownership, it’s as if the Second Amendment doesn’t exist at all. Americans who openly enjoy and practice their rights in places like Arizona and Texas are seen as felons in the Northeast.

When asked about Justice Stevens’s call for a Second Amendment repeal, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) admitted repeal would be  “extraordinarily difficult,” but expressed hope her goals of gun control can be achieved through legislation.

The calls for “commonsense” reform aren’t about gun safety, they’re about eliminating the Second Amendment through regulation.

Groups like Everytown don’t spend a dime on real gun safety. On the other hand, the National Rifle Association has spent millions of dollars over the past two decades to educate hundreds of thousands of people about firearm ownership. They’ve trained thousands of instructors who have passed their knowledge down to responsible, law-abiding citizens.

The left has shown us time and time again where they stand on this issue. It’s long past due that we believe them.
