RED LINE: Pizzeria Paradiso
D.C. natives rave about this place and its incredible pizza. The pies come fresh out of a wood-burning oven with thin, crispy crusts. The Boulevard Woodgrill is casual and relaxed, the perfect place for a lazy Saturday afternoon lunch with friends. Located on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, appetizers at the restaurant range from garlic hummus to crab, spinach and artichoke dip. The Boulevard Woodgrill also offers eight different kinds of salad as meals for as little as $8.95. Sandwiches are of the burger, BLT and crab cake variety, and there’s also the mac n’ salad concoction, a must-try that mixes macaroni and cheese with leafy greens and tomato and vinaigrette dressing. Good Stuff is not your typical burger joint. Offering upscale twists on old favorites, Top Chef’s Spike Mendelsohn’s Capitol Hill creation offers burgers such as the Spike’s 5 Napkin, which includes cheese, bacon and a fried egg on a brioche bun with special good stuff sauce and a special vegeterian mushroom burger. For the healthier patrons, Good Stuff offers salads and bunless burgers. Usual fare like fries, onion rings and chili are also served. A great deal at the restaurant is the “Lunch Bag,” which consists of a farmhouse cheeseburger, fries and fountain soda for $10. Café Saint-Ex is located in the heart of one of D.C.’s most promising up-and-coming areas. The U Street neighborhood is quickly becoming a great new hip place to hang out. Café Saint-Ex is a good place to escape on a quiet weekend for a delicious lunch. Their menu consists of salad, lox, beets and mussels to start, ranging in price from $8 to $10. Entrees are served with either house-cut or sweet potato fries or a mixed greens salad. The fried green tomato BLT is raved about by those living in the neighborhood. YELLOW LINE: Full-Kee Restaurant
Located just off the Chinatown Metro, Full-Kee serves family-style traditional Chinese food. Lunch specials range from $4.50 to $5.75 from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. daily and include the usual favorites such as Moo Goo Gai Pan, sweet and sour pork and general Tso’s chicken. All lunch entrees are served with rice and a fortune cookie. Full-Kee was named one of the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the U.S. and awarded a “Cheap Eats” title in 2005 by Washingtonian magazine.
