Microsoft acquires Israeli cyber firm
Microsoft has finalized a deal to acquire the Israeli cybersecurity startup Adallom, part of a recent buying spree to boost the company’s commercial cloud offerings.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, though reports have pegged the purchase price at between $250 million and $320 million.
{mosads} “Advanced threats and cybercrime will persist in this mobile-first, cloud-first era, but we remain committed to helping our customers protect their data with new and innovative identity and security capabilities,” Microsoft said on Tuesday.
Microsoft purchased another Israeli cybersecurity startup last year, Aorato, which makes a product tailored for Microsoft users.
Israel is widely seen as matching Silicon Valley when it comes to cybersecurity innovation. Israeli companies exported around $6 billion in cyber products last year, constituting around 10 percent of the global market, according to data from Israel’s National Cyber Bureau.
Experts point to a thriving startup environment and a healthy talent flow from military intelligence units.
Adallom, founded in 2012 by three Israeli Intelligence Corps alumni, is headquartered in Palo Alto, Calif., with an office in Israel.
