Civil liberties group sues FBI to release Russia response

A digital rights group is suing the FBI to try to force the release of information about its investigation and response to Russia’s involvement in the U.S. presidential election. 

The Electronic Privacy Information Center filed paperwork Thursday to launch the suit. 

“Congress is in the midst of a critical debate over the role that Russian interference played in the 2016 Presidential election. But very little information has been provided to the public and very little is known at this time about the steps that were taken to protect US democratic institutions against this foreign attack,” EPIC senior counsel Alan Butler said via email. 

{mosads}”EPIC filed this open government lawsuit against the FBI because the Bureau has primary responsibility for protecting the U.S. against cyber attacks. The public has the right to know how the Bureau responded to these events.”

The group will hold a press conference about the lawsuit Thursday afternoon.
