Boehner on Putin Syria op-ed: ‘I was insulted’

“As I said earlier this week, I have real doubts about the motives of the Russians and President Assad in offering this current path. Now that the president has made the decision to delay any authorization vote, I hope a diplomatic solution can be found,” he said.

{mosads}Boehner declined to elaborate on why he was insulted by Putin’s op-ed.

“I’ve probably already said more than I should have,” Boehner told reporters. “But you got the truth.”

In the op-ed, Putin warned that a potential U.S. military strike on Syria would “result in more innocent victims and escalation,” and said that U.S. force in Iraq and Afghanistan was “ineffective and pointless.”

Boehner was one of the few House Republicans to support the president’s
call for military strikes in Syria, as much of his conference lined up against authorizing
military action.

Obama asked Congress this week to delay a vote while a
diplomatic solution is pursued with Russia.
