Lockheed reduces employee furloughs

“As a result of Secretary Hagel’s announcement that most of
the nearly 400,000 civilian Department of Defense (DOD) employees have been
deemed essential for national security, Lockheed Martin will reduce the number
of employees who will be affected by government shutdown today,” Lockheed said
in a statement.

work on civilian programs, and 300 on Pentagon contracts.

The furloughed employees reside in 27 states, with the
majority in the Washington area, the company said.

Other defense contractors have also cut their planned
furloughs after the Pentagon sent most of its civilians back to work.

Sikorsky said Saturday it was canceling all of its 2,000
furloughs planned to begin on Monday, Sikorsky spokesman Paul Jackson said.
