Report: Pentagon intel chief to step down

The head of the Pentagon’s intelligence agency is expected to announce Wednesday that he is stepping down from his post, according to The Washington Post. 

Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is being forced out — a year before he was scheduled to depart — after he clashed with other leaders over his plans to reform the agency, the report said.

{mosads}“His vision in DIA was seen as disruptive; he’s not a guy to take the agency forward in a coordinated and comprehensive manner,” a former Pentagon official told the Post.

According to the report, Flynn worked closely with retired Gen. Stanley McChrystal on Afghanistan and wanted to push the agency’s analysts out into the field. Those plans faced resistance from the agency’s rank and file.

Army Lt. Gen. Mary A. Legere is expected to be tapped to head the agency, according to reports.
