Dozens of ISIS fighters killed in Kobani
Up to 50 Islamic militants were killed in clashes with Kurdish fighters in the Syrian border town of Kobani, a watchdog group said Sunday.
{mosads}Syrian Kurdish fighters belonging to the People’s Protection Units, known as YPG, have battled the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the town, mere miles from the Turkish border, for weeks, despite the help of U.S.-led airstrikes.
The stalemate has raised questions about whether the U.S. strategy against ISIS is working.
Five ISIS suicide bombers blew themselves up using cars and explosive belts in and around the Kurdish city, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based opposition group.
On Saturday, ISIS forces fired 160 shells in the area. Meanwhile, two of the group’s tanks were destroyed, including one by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes, according to the group.
The U.S.-led coalition conducted four airstrikes in against four ISIS “bastions” inside Kobani, and there were reports of losses, the group said.
