Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is condemning President Obama for extending talks over Iran’s nuclear program.
“The longer the Obama Administration stays at the negotiating table with Iran, the more concessions it makes,” Cruz, a 2016 presidential candidate, said in a statement.
“Enough is enough,” he added.
{mosads}Cruz rattled off a number of concerns, including Iran’s reported push to remove economic sanctions before international watchdogs can inspect the country’s nuclear sites and retain its nuclear materials, rather than ship them to another nation.
Cruz, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, also claimed that the commander of the Basij militia, part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, allegedly said “erasing Israel off the map” is “nonnegotiable.”
“The Obama administration’s bad deal is only getting worse with time,” Cruz continued. “Iran’s nuclear build-up profoundly endangers the security of America and our allies.”
His scathing critique follows the White House’s signal on Wednesday that negotiations over Iran’s nuclear effort would continue, despite passing a March 31 deadline to reach a political framework for a deal.
“While the talks have been productive, we have not yet received the specific, tangible commitments that the international community seeks,” press secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.
State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said Thursday that Secretary of State John Kerry would remain in Lausanne, Switzerland, through Thursday morning to continue talks.
