Two people shot at Arkansas Air Force base

Two people have been hospitalized after a gunman attempted to force his way into the Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas.

A release from the base says an “active threat occurred at the front gate” at 9:15 a.m. Monday. The threat spurred a lockdown of the base, and all traffic to and from the facility was stopped until about 12:45 p.m. CDT. At that time, the base opened all gates except one, where the incident had occurred.

“The safety of base members and their families are of base leaders’ utmost concern,” the statement said. Officials did not specify whether there had been a shooting.

A Jacksonville police officer told ArkansasOnline that one person was shot as someone tried to enter the base without authorization.

Lt. Col. Christopher Karns told USA Today that security officers fired at a man trying to enter the base.

KTVH-11 in Little Rock has said that a vehicle is currently being inspected for danger by a robot so that officers can stay clear.
