Coalition airstrike kills senior ISIS leader
The Pentagon announced Thursday that a coalition airstrike killed senior Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Tariq bin Tahar al-‘Awni al-Harzi.
{mosads}Al-Harzi worked to raise funds and recruit foreign fighters for the terrorist group. He also shipped weapons from Libya to Syria for ISIS, and facilitated suicide and car bomb attacks in Iraq, said Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis.
The airstrike took place on June 16 in Shaddadi, Syria.
The strike follows another successful strike last month that killed his brother, ‘Ali bin Tahar al-‘Awni al-Harzi, an ISIS member and a “person of interest” in the September 2012 Benghazi attack.
