Pentagon identifies soldier killed in Afghanistan fighting ISIS
The Pentagon identified the U.S. service member who was killed this week in eastern Afghanistan as Army Special Forces Staff Sgt. Adam S. Thomas.
{mosads}Thomas, 31, was killed on Tuesday morning by a improvised explosive device while on patrol with Afghan forces on a mission against the Islamic State – Khorasan in Nangarhar Province.
ISK has been trying to establish a caliphate in Nangarhar Province since 2015.
Thomas was serving as part of the U.S.’s counterterrorism mission in Afghanistan, Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. He was from Tacoma Park, Md.
He was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado.
