Panetta inks deal to write memoir

Panetta has a host of experiences from which to draw for the
memoir. He served throughout President Obama’s first term, first as CIA
director and then as Defense secretary.

{mosads}Before joining the Obama administration, Panetta was former President
Clinton’s chief of staff and director of the Office of Management and Budget.
As a congressman, he was chairman of the House Budget Committee.

“I have seen Washington at its best and at its worst,” Panetta said in a statement announcing the memoir. “My goal is to give readers the opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn the lessons of how our democracy works, and sometimes how it fails to work.”

Panetta retired earlier this year and is now residing at his
walnut farm in Monterey, Calif. He has re-joined
several corporate boards he’d resigned from before serving in the Obama
administration.
