Snowden: I have not talked to China
“Ask yourself: if I were a Chinese spy, why wouldn’t I have
flown directly into Beijing?” Snowden wrote. “I could be living in a palace
petting a phoenix by now.”
{mosads}That answer, however, stirred up new speculation, as Snowden
did not specifically say he had not provided any documents to the Chinese.
Guardian reporter
Spencer Ackerman, who had asked the first question about China, followed up and
asked him to give a direct answer.
“No. I have had no contact with the Chinese government,” he
responded. “Just like with the Guardian and the Washington Post, I only work
with journalists.”
Snowden’s whereabouts have been a question mark since the 29-year-old
former CIA employee and NSA contractor turned up in Hong Kong and said he was the source of the Guardian and Washington Post’s NSA stories.
Hong Kong is a “special administrative region” that’s
controlled by China, which led to speculation that he may have handed over classified information
to the Chinese government in exchange for asylum.
