Levin traveling to Jordan, Turkey to talk Syria
Levin has been one of the leading Democrats pushing for the Obama
administration to do more in Syria, including setting up a no-fly zone.
{mosads}The Obama administration has taken a more cautious approach
to the two-year civil war, resisting a no-fly zone and waiting to send
military aid to the rebels until it determined that Syrian President Bashar
Assad’s regime had used chemical weapons.
Last year, Obama warned that the use of chemical
weapons was a “red line” that would change his calculus toward the conflict.
During the stops in Jordan and Turkey, Levin plans to meet
with foreign leaders, U.S. military commanders and U.S. troops serving there,
according to his office.
Levin’s Armed Services colleague Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)
generated a wave of headlines when he made a similar trip last month, as McCain
snuck
inside the Syrian border to meet with rebel groups and military leaders.
