Venezuelan president praises Snowden, but no asylum offer

Venezuela was one of 21 countries where Snowden applied for
asylum, according to a statement from WikiLeaks, which helped facilitate the
requests.

{mosads}Snowden allegedly remains in Moscow’s transit zone, where he
is stuck without a passport after traveling from Hong Kong.

Many of the countries are quickly saying they won’t
grant Snowden asylum, either by stating he wouldn’t receive it outright or
because he would have to make the request on their soil, which does not appear
to be possible.

Venezuela is seen as one of Snowden’s best remaining
possibilities for asylum. Another is Bolivia, as Bolivian President Evo Morales
suggested he was open to offering Snowden refuge.

“Yes, why not,” Morales said, according to CNN,
citing a report from Russia’s state-run Itar-Tass news agency. “We are
worried at the demeanor of countries such as U.S.A.”
