Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) on Sunday slammed President Donald Trump for his recent executive order that calls for a temporary ban on nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries entering the United States, arguing “there is no way in hell” Secretary of Defense James Mattis supports the measure.
“There is no way in hell that he is supportive of this,” Moulton told ABC’s “This Week.” “He relied on translators for his life, just like I did. He understands what it means to put your life in the hands of an Iraqi or an Afghan.”
Trump on Friday signed an executive order that included a 90-day ban on nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. The order also puts a 120-day ban on admitting refugees and an indefinite halt on Syrian refugees coming to the United States.
{mosads}Moulton, a former lieutenant in the Marines who served several tours in Iraq, argued on Sunday Trump’s order will incite terrorist groups to attack the United States.
The congressman also said Trump’s latest actions show his Defense and Homeland Security secretaries “don’t have a voice.”
“So what’s frightening about this situation is it shows that people like General Mattis and General Kelly clearly don’t have a voice in the Trump administration, that Trump is just doing things for political gain, not in the best interests of our national security,” he said.
