Mosul has long been the epicenter of intense military operations against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Two other U.S. soldiers died in Afghanistan this week. The two Army Rangers were killed during an operation with Afghan defense and security forces against ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) targets in the Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan.
