US service member killed in Afghanistan — 11th this year
A U.S. service member died Wednesday after suffering fatal wounds during an operation against the Afghanistan branch of ISIS, according to a U.S. Forces-Afghanistan statement.
It is the 11th death of a U.S. service member in the country in 2017.
The incident took place during a partnered operation with U.S. and Afghan Forces in Eastern Afghanistan.
Several U.S and Afghan forces were injured during the operation which was “aimed at further reducing Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan presence in Afghanistan,” according to the statement.

The wounded personnel were evacuated for treatment. The statement did not say how many were injured.
Next of kin are being notified, the statement noted.
It is the third death of a U.S. service member this month. Two soldiers were killed on Aug. 2 in a suicide attack in Kandahar.
The death comes as President Trump is headed to Camp David on Friday to discuss the strategy on the war in Afghanistan with his national security team.
