McConnell: Trump doing ‘a great job’ handling North Korea

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in an interview broadcast Wednesday praised President Trump for how he has handled North Korea’s aggression.

“I think the president is doing actually a great job. He’s the first president who’s been able to get the attention of the Chinese who are actually squeezing the North Koreans as we speak,” McConnell told Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle.”

{mosads}North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday that Defense Secretary James Mattis said “went higher, frankly, than any previous shot they’ve taken.”

North Korea’s nuclear aggression has been a thorn in Trump’s side throughout the first year of his presidency and was a focal point of the president’s recent trip to Asia.

McConnell in the interview said he is hopeful that the United States can avoid war in the region over North Korea’s aggression.

Trump has received criticism for some of his rhetoric in regards to North Korea, which include his nicknames for the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un. Trump has repeatedly called Kim “Little Rocket Man” and on Wednesday after the missile launch referred to him as a “sick puppy.”
