White House names picks for top Air Force, Pentagon acquisition posts

President Trump on Wednesday named two veteran Defense Department civilians for top Pentagon acquisition jobs.

Trump picked William Roper to be the assistant Air Force secretary for acquisition and Kevin Fahey to be assistant Defense secretary for acquisition, the White House said in a statement.

The two must now be confirmed by the Senate.

Roper is currently the head of the Pentagon’s Strategic Capabilities Office, a position he’s held since the office was created in 2012. He has also been the acting chief architect at the Missile Defense Agency and served as an adviser to the undersecretary of Defense for acquisition, technology and logistics.

Fahey, now the vice president for combat vehicles and armaments at the consulting group Cypress International, also has a long history within the Pentagon. He previously worked as executive director of systems engineering and integration in the Army’s acquisition office.
