Stackley will be L3’s corporate vice president for strategic advanced programs and technology, a newly created position that “will focus on growth plans that align technology investments with strategy, pursuit planning, and mergers and acquisitions,” the company said in a statement.

Stackley served as the Navy’s assistant secretary for research, development and acquisition from 2008 to 2017. He also was acting Navy secretary since January. He was replaced in August when the Senate confirmed the current service secretary, Richard Spencer.

The longtime public servant follows other former Pentagon officials that have recently moved to industry jobs.

Former Army Secretary Eric Fanning became president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association on Jan. 1, and former Deputy Secretary Bob Work in August joined Raytheon’s board of directors.
