Watch: Boeing CEO testifies before Senate on ‘broken’ safety culture

Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun testified Tuesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Investigations regarding a series of mechanical failures that have raised doubts about safety standards at the aerospace giant.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s (D-Conn.) staff earlier Tuesday named the latest of several whistleblowers who have alleged that Boeing’s safety practices are inadequate. Another former Boeing manager, John Barnett, was determined by police to have died by suicide after delivering part of a deposition alleging manufacturing problems.

The Federal Aviation Administration had already been investigating the company’s practices when a door blew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 earlier this year, which brought the safety culture at Boeing into the spotlight.
