Truck runs into US Army convoy in Germany

A truck ran into a U.S. military convoy on Monday in Germany, the Army said, but no U.S. soldiers are believed to be injured.

Lt. Col. Michael Weisman, public affairs director for the 7th Army Training Command, told The Hill in a statement that a U.S. Army truck traveling on a highway from Hohenfels towards Grafenwoehr pulled over after it was separated from the rest of its convoy. 

As the vehicle waited, it was struck by a “civilian commercial truck,” Weisman said, which damaged three Army vehicles.  

The Associated Press reported that the truck ran into the vehicle from behind, citing German news agency DPA.

Bavarian emergency services arrived on the scene and closed the highway, Weisman told The Hill. While there were no U.S. injuries, eight soldiers were taken to the hospital for “precautionary screening.”

The AP separately reported, however, that the commercial truck’s cab was destroyed in the accident, and that the driver was believed to have been killed.  

German police described the incident as an accident, the AP reported.
