Pentagon awards Marine One bid
Connecticut lawmakers cheered news that home-state defense contractor Sikorsky will be teaming up with Lockheed Martin to build the next presidential helicopter.
The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that it is awarding Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. in Stratford, Conn., a $1.2 billion contract for the engineering and manufacturing development phase of six test aircraft, support equipment, and other associated costs.
{mosads}Reps. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and John Larson (D-Conn.) issued a statement congratulating the companies on Wednesday.
“Sikorsky has long been synonymous with Marine One, the presidential helicopter,” DeLauro said Wednesday.
Work will be performed in Stratford; Owego, N.Y.; Coatesville, Pa.; Orlando, Fla.; Phoenix, Ariz., Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Vergennes, Vt.; and Torrance, Calif., and is expected to October 2020.
