Peter King calls for ‘massive air attack’ against ISIS
A former chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said Sunday that the United States should unleash a “massive air attack” against the militant Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
{mosads}Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) said the U.S. military should seek to stamp out ISIS forces through an expanded aerial assault not limited to protecting a group of thousands of refugees now under siege in northern Iraq.
In particular, King said the air strikes would be more damaging if they were orchestrated from land bases, in addition to aircraft carriers now waging the assault.
Though he stopped short of formally calling for U.S. boots on the ground in Iraq, King said, “we should take nothing off the table,” during an appearance on “Meet The Press.”
President Obama, who authorized targeted strikes on Thursday, has emphasized that he would not send ground troops back into the war-torn country.
King blasted the assurance, saying the United States should not telegraph its strategies — and the limits of its resolve — to its enemies.
Further, he laid the rise of ISIS directly at Obama’s feet, saying the president should have left ground forces in Iraq.
“He started this downfall in 2011 with the direct withdrawal of American troops,” King said.
