Salazar: BP capturing 15,000 barrels per day, but amount escaping unknown
“I hope that in the next several days we will have a number that is based on science,” Salazar told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. “We hope to be able to have the scientists that are looking at that issue have some numbers that we will share with the American public and, obviously, members with this committee soon.”
A task force of federal scientists and independent experts estimated in late May that 12,000 to 19,000 barrels of oil were spewing from the ruptured well each day in what has become the largest spill in U.S. history.
