Think tank tracks Copenhagen climate aid pledges

The good news: Countries are up to almost $28 billon in pledges. The bad news: All of it does not appear to meet the threshold of being “new and additional” financing, the benchmark that came from the summit.

“A number of pledges are restated or renamed commitments already made in the past. For example, Japan’s Hatoyama Initiative resembles the previously announced Japanese Cool Earth Partnership, with some new resources included in the Initiative,” WRI notes.

The think tank’s online tool also tracks other dimensions of the financing pledges, like the source of the various countries’ funds, institutions the money will be channeled through and other information.
